Could you talk about the unique qualities that Jenna and Billie bring to the companion roles?MS: Each Doctor has a very individual relationship
with their own companion. I can speak on behalf of Jenna because
obviously I haven't worked with Billie in quite the same way. But I
think Jenna brings real diligence, intelligence and tenacity to her
companion, that challenges the Doctor in a slightly different way. She
refuses to go on trips with him, which is bizarre, but I think intrigues
him. And she's quite forthright with her opinions and her mind, and I
think Jenna works very hard bringing all that to life.DT: Well, Billie I think is one of the country's
great actors. And I think it's always a joy to work with her and I think
she gives and has given Rose Tyler a humanity that captured a nation's
heart.
MS: And she's left a legacy with Rose. I think Rose is one of the great companions, you know?
DT: I think that was one of the things that Russell
did very cleverly when he rebooted the whole show. It was Rose's point
of view, the Doctor was a secondary character. Which is kind of how it
was back in 1963. She was the audience's way in, but also she was
written in a very three dimensional way, which perhaps wasn't always the
tradition back in the day. And I think Billie embodied that and I think
that has then carried on through Freema and Catherine, then Karen and
now Jenna. I think though the centrality of that relationship has been
key to the show.
Matt Smith scheint bei dem Interview auf jeden Fall richtig gute Laune gehabt zu haben (oder er schauspielert es gut) ![]()

David, you've proven there's a lot of life after the Doctor. Matt, is that reassuring?
MS: Obviously, one hopes for a career into one's 30s
and 40s! Of course I want to do different stuff, challenging stuff,
plays, films and, you know, a bit of directing, a bit of everything
really. But at the moment, this is the all-consuming thing. So this is
the focus. But yet, I would like a career after Doctor Who!
DT: I think the way the show is now, and the level
of success it's enjoying, I think it opens more doors than it closes. I
think you'll be alright!

Waris Hussein, who directed the first ever Dr Who episode, has recently said the show has become too sexualised. But Matt hit back, telling the Mirror: “I strongly disagree. Dr Who is just rollocking good fun with the odd snog here and there.
“For sure, Karen (Gillan) is hot, so too Billie and Jenna but is that a bad thing? I don’t think so."

Matt will leave the show in the Christmas episode, when the Time Lord regenerates into a new Doctor played by Peter Capaldi.
He said because of the role. he was spotted all around the world on holiday and people even approached him in toilets to try to talk to him, which was a little uncomfortable.“This guy followed me and asked me if I would speak to his wife on the phone - as I was making use of the facilities.
“I said: ‘this isn’t the best time, dude.’ But when I’d finished doing what I was doing, I did speak to his wife!”Asked if he had any advice for Capaldi, Matt said: “Enjoy it, man. And be prepared to learn an awful lot of lines.
“The best thing about the show is pretty much everything! The storylines, the guest stars, just the honour of playing the doctor.
"The worst is all those lines! Sorry to hark on about it but it really is extraordinary how much you have to learn.”
